Jacksonville: We know that, presently Microsoft doesn’t have a good grip over the smartphone market and this could be the reason for the company releasing a new Android app. Yes! Microsoft recently released an Android app called AppComparison which allures Android users to dive into soon-to-be-launched Windows 10 operating system.
Gartner, an American IT research firm reported that the Windows powered devices accounted for just 1.7% of smartphones sold in the 3rd quarter of the year 2015. This being the condition of Windows powered devices, Microsoft had to come up with a strategy to prove that Windows is not lacking with the support of apps, and AppComparison is the result of it.
New app to dispel the myth!
With AppComparison, it seems Microsoft is looking to dispel the myth that Windows 10 mobile is lacking with respect to apps. Once you install the app, it scans your Android device completely and shows up the apps that you will be able to use even on Windows 10 Mobile like Netflix, Facebook, Spotify, Twitter and many other apps.
However, in the attempt of proving that Windows 10 Mobile operating system is not lacking when it comes to the app support, undeniably the platform still seems to be lagging behind Android. But, the app recommends alternative apps for those which are not available yet. For instance, if you are using Google Drive on your Android device, the app points that Windows 10 has Microsoft’s OneDrive for cloud storage while Google Maps users are advised to take a look on Here Maps.
Will the app convince Android users?
The early reviews of the app have not been too positive and it’s not surprising. Most of the Android users seem to be disgruntled and they have said that they would not want to switch to Windows 10 Mobile even if they love Windows 10 devices and the platform. They feel that the apps are very limited and replacements are bad too. They can think of switching only when there are a few good apps.
Though the efforts of Microsoft in bringing a new Android app is appreciated, it doesn’t look like the app is serving the purpose, as the Android users who have used the app on their devices feel that the suggested replacements on Windows devices are not going to cut it. It’s true that no Android user would give up Google Music or YouTube Red just for Cloud Muzik.
